Bandai Namco has a busy lineup in the back half of 2026, and it all starts with Echoes Of Aincrad. With the game 2 weeks out before its July 10th release date, the team has released a second story trailer to highlight what players can expect.
For those unfamiliar with the premise of the game, Echoes of Aincrad is a single player experience that takes place in the Sword Art Online world. Players take control of a character who is part of beta test for a new game. The goal of the game is to get through 100 levels of a castle in order to beat the game.
However just before the game launches, someone switches off the logout button meaning everyone inside is now trapped inside the game. Players will then need to work together to figure out how to beat the game, in hopes that this will let them escape the virtual world.
The new, rather lengthy story trailer showcases how the characters of the world come to this realization that they are trapped inside the floating castle of Aincrad. They must come to grips with the fact that dying in the virtual world means they die in the real world and learn how to work together for everyone to survive.

Players will be playing as their own avatar for the first time in a Sword Art game and will have to work through the levels with franchise icons Asuna, Agil, Lisbeth and more. The games combat system features a switch system allowing the player to choose who is attacking and who is supporting during battles. We had a better deep dive on the gameplay earlier this year in another trailer.
As someone who has never played a Sword Art game, everything I’ve seen from Echoes of Aincrad looks quite interesting and has me curious about the game. I’m sure fans of the franchise are eager to get their hands on it on July 10th.
Echoes of Aincrad launched July 10th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
