Ratatan, the spiritual successor to the action-rhythm series Patapon, has been delayed out of its July release date due to “bug fixing and polish”. The rhythm roguelike will now be released on Thursday, October 15th, across PC, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Developed by Ratata Arts, published by Game Source Entertainment, and with the creator of the Patapon series, game designer Hiroyuki Kotani, heading up the project, Ratatan challenges players to build their Cobun army and march across a 2D battlefield, facing off against various foes in rhythm-based battles.
The release date delay was announced on the Ratatan Steam page, where Sakajiri Kazuto, the game’s producer, apologised to fans and explained the reasoning behind the decision, citing online support and building the game out for a large number of platforms as part of it.
“Unfortunately, we just need a little extra development time and had to delay the release of the game,” explained Sakajiri. “I’m truly sorry about this delay for all the backers that have been waiting patiently so far. In our initial development plan we didn’t expect to do Early Access and then adjust the game to the level that we did based on that feedback.“
Ratatan was originally announced in 2024 and, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, was released into Early Access on PC via Steam in July of 2025.

As a way of apology, Ratata Arts and Game Source Entertainment announced that players who have pre-ordered Ratatan will receive Deluxe bonus content DLC codes as compensation*. The DLC (pictured above) includes:
- Cobun Set (Cobun x8)
- Equipment & Accessories Set (Special Weapons x8 + Accessories x1)
- Supply Set
*The Deluxe Edition DLC codes will only be available to those who have an existing pre-order. The bonus content is also included in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers and stakeholders who have been eagerly awaiting the release of Ratatan. The entire development and production team is working together to improve the game, so that we can deliver it to you with the highest possible quality.
We want to thank you for your support and your patience, we hope you understand that this extra time is needed to deliver at the level of quality the player expects and deserves.”
Ratatan releases on October 15th across PC, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is available now in Early Access on PC via Steam.
