Another franchise looks to be getting the Hollywood treatment as it’s been announced that Sea Of Thieves is in the early stages of a film adaptation.
Early should be stressed as the movie doesn’t even have a director attached to it yet. Although it’s confirmed that the movie will be produced by Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While some would argue Sea Of Thieves is an odd choice due to its lack of plot overall, Minecraft also isn’t known for its plot and that movie was a monumental success. Plus in the long absence of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, there’s possibly a market for a good pirate adventure.
Sea Of Thieves is just the latest in a string of adaptations from Microsoft owned IPS. On top of the Minecraft movie, fallout has had a well made series , Halo has a series and movies based on both Gears of War and Call of Duty are in development. It’s also worth noting that Sea Of Thieves is among Microsoft’s most successful gaming ips so it does have the reach for a movie adaptation to make sense.
Given how long development takes it’ll likely be awhile before we see more on the Sea Of Thieves film adaptation. We’ll share more news on the movie as it comes about.
