Monolith Soft has revealed a new entry in its Xenoblade series, a soft reboot titled Xenoblade: Genesis. The game is set to release exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade series began in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii, with the first game originally released as a Japan-only release before eventually arriving in Europe in 2011, and later in North America in 2012 following a viral campaign known as Operation Rainfall. While a standalone entry known as Xenoblade Chronicles X was released for the Wii U in 2015, the series did not enjoy mainstream success until 2017’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which went on to sell over two million copies.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and its expansion Future Redeemed marked a conclusive end to the original universe created in the original Wii game, so it comes as little surprise that Monolith Soft’s newest entry is a soft reboot of the franchise. Xenoblade: Genesis follows a new cast of characters in a fantasy high school setting, but seems to retain the series’ hallmark wide-open world exploration and strong visual style.
No combat was shown, although it’s assumed that it will incorporate another fresh spin on the action RPG formula with its own battle system. One of the game’s character designers is confirmed to be Mai Yoneyama, who previously worked at anime studio TRIGGER on projects such as Kill la Kill, Kiznaiver, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Alongside Xenoblade: Genesis, Monolith Soft also revealed Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, each of which will add new features and modes alongside performance improvements.
Xenoblade: Genesis will release in 2027 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
