The Cyberpunk Effect: Stellar Blade Goes Futuristic
The original Stellar Blade was one of those games that seemed like it flew under the radar in the most successful way possible. As of the writing of this article, the original Stellar Blade has sold 6.1 million copies, with nearly 4 million of those coming from just the PS5. By those metrics, it’s no surprise that a sequel was a decent choice. Given the loyal community behind the original, it only made sense to go this direction.
The trailer shown at today’s Summer Game Fest has more or less proved that Shift Up hasn’t lost their touch. If anything, this new game looks even more fun then the first entry in the series. The trailer introduces us to a new protagonist named Evie. Evie looks to have all the style and action swagger that people came to love in the original. Check out the reveal trailer down below:
Though the trailer starts off looking like a game pulled straight from the Cyberpunk universe, the distinct bloody action and over the top combat loop look right at home in the series. The main takeaways from this reveal trailer are that this new character prefers to get up close and personal with the enemies you go up against and that she took classes from the Ghost in the Shell anime as far as her look. The intricate melee focused combat looks to be hectic as anything to use, so I can’t wait to see what Shift Up shows us next.

The game is still a ways out, with no official release date announced yet. I’m already eager to learn when it is and even more so to get my hands on a demo. Maybe it’s time to finally dive into the first Stellar Blade and see if it’s worth all the hype.
