State of Play Opens with Brutal Wolverine Gameplay

At the latest PlayStation State of Play, Insomniac Games dropped an extended look at gameplay from their next title, Wolverine.

The reveal gave us a look at Wolverine seeking out some captured mutants, kidnapped by a bunch of guns-for-hire militia called the Reavers. It’s not long before the claws are out and blood is being sprayed, literally everywhere. Of course, Wolverine is known for his brutality, and Insomniac are not shying away from that in the game. Combat is visceral, brutal and bloody. Logan gets covered in blood (although it gets washed off super quickly) as he performs a varied range of combos and finishers.

Further in, Logan enter into combat alongside another mutant, psychic wielding, Jean Grey, as they try to save a shipping container of captured humans and mutants. This sections shows off some of the combos you can perform with your allies, as well as a variety of shielded, armed and melee enemies. You’ll soon be pulling off finishing moves, called Critical Strikes. You’ll also build up your special meter and can unleash stronger attacks, heal and use “Rage Tier 3” which are stylised monochromatic moments, inspired by the Black, White and Blood comic series.

The action continues on to the road, as the enemies try to make their mistake and Wolverine pursues on a motorbike, before ending up on the back of a truck. We get a good look at Wolverine’s healing abilities, and there’s some lovely (probably the wrong word) moments of Logan going in for the kill whilst very clearly taking bullet wounds as he goes.

At the end of the gameplay video we get a glimpse of Sabretooth, Logan’s friend turned nemesis.
