Bethesda announces that native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Fallout 76 will launch this summer. Public testing is kicking off later this month.
The next-gen versions brings welcome technical improvements over the current-gen releases. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can expect 4K60 gameplay, improved draw distance, enhanced shadows, and VRR support.
PS5 and PS4 Pro owners also get native 1440p support, while previous-generation platforms will continue to run at 1080p.
The upgrades are part of Fallout 76’s new Infestations update, which also introduces a new gameplay event. Players are tasked with clearing out enemy infestations taking over locations across Appalachia. The update also includes additional balance changes, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements.

No specific launch date for the platform upgrades has been announced, though the upcoming public test period will give players an early look at these improvements ahead of release. Further details are expected as testing gets underway, with more currently on the official Fallout blog.
For a game that’s been around for nearly eight years, it’s good to see Bethesda still investing in the Fallout 76 experience, following the likes of the Burning Springs update which featured The Ghoul from the Amazon TV show. Giving current and future players options to play on newer hardware is something worth looking forward to this summer.
