Theos: Cities in Myth Announced at The Mix Summer Game Showcase

Fans of classic, early-2000s city builders have a new reason to rejoice. Publisher Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive (Pharaoh: A New Era) have officially announced Theos: Cities of Myth, a brand new strategic city-management game set to launch on PC later in 2026.

The upcoming title aims to be a modern homage to the golden era of city builders, blending the nostalgic charm of classic mechanics with modern refinements, dynamic lighting, and an intuitive user interface.

Appeasing the Gods

In Theos: Cities of Myth, players are tasked with transforming humble ancient Greek settlements into thriving, sprawling metropolises. However, you won’t just be answering to the needs of your citizens, you will also be building your society in honour of the gods.

Each city you construct stands as a direct tribute to one of seven all-mighty Greek deities, including Athena and Ares. By constructing majestic temples and completing specific actions aligned with your chosen god’s desires, you will unlock powerful boons, special heroes, and legendary historical figures who will join and reinforce your society.

But managing a divine relationship is a delicate balancing act. While you work to provide your citizens with earthly necessities like food, housing, culture, and entertainment, you must keep an eye on the heavens. Ignoring your deity’s wishes can trigger divine wrath, which can quickly dismantle even the most promising utopia.

Key Features and Gameplay Modes

Triskell Interactive is bringing the acclaimed, newcomer-friendly building suite from Pharaoh: A New Era over to Theos: Cities in Myth, allowing players to intricately design everything from grand temples down to individual walking paths.

The game promises dozens of hours of strategic gameplay divided across three main pillars:

  • Story & Scenarios: Structured missions that test your management skills under unique constraints.
  • Sandbox Mode: A richly malleable mode where you can build your dream mythological empire without limits.
  • Real-Time Warfare & Trade: Unlike traditional historical builders that focus entirely on isolationist management, Theos introduces a military layer. Players can amass vast armies to defend their borders from neighboring rivals or take the fight to them by conquering and claiming rival colonies in real-time battles. Additionally, players can expand their influence by establishing far-reaching trading networks to turn a small town into a resource-rich economic powerhouse.

As someone who enjoys a good city builder, I’ll definitely be looking forward to new details about this one throughout the year.
