One of the years most anticipated titles, and a game that Xbox was planning to have for its 25th anniversary celebrations has been delayed. Fable, the reboot of one of Xbox’s biggest IPs and being developed by arguably their best studio, has been delayed to February 2027.
The delay, while not all that surprising, is still going to be disappointing for many. Xbox has a stacked lineup for the rest of the year even without Fable, and they will want to be sure they get such a storied IP right. Plus between their own lineup and games like Grand Theft Auto VI, there might not have been many spots to release the game.
In a post on social media, Xbox’s official statement more or less said as much:
“This is year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI. In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”

The good news is that this is a small delay as the game only had a “2026” release date and we all figured that meant somewhere from September to December. A few months of extra polish certainly won’t hurt.
The official Fable account also put out a statement saying that “We know this stings, but it won’t be much longer before you’re back in Albion making morally questionable decisions.” The post also goes on to state that they will be making some “big Fable reveals” at the Xbox Showcase on June 7th. It will be a good chance to see where the game is at. The last time we saw it was at the Xbox Dev Direct back in January.
This will at least give you a little more time to figure out how you are going to rule over your kingdom of Albion!
