IO Interactive’s first James Bond adventure, 007 First Light launched earlier this week to excellent critical acclaim. Sitting at 87-89 on Metacritic depending on platform, the new Bond action title with a fresh story is off to a sales flyer.
Within only 24-hours, the game has sold a whopping 1.5 million copies across PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Announcing the incredible launch of the game to X (formerly Twitter), the official page said: “Thank you for showing up to the launch of 007 First Light, for your overwhelming enthusiasm and for sharing your experience with the game.”.
It will likely be a relief for IO, First Light has been one of the most heavily marketed games in recent years thus likely accruing a high advertising budget. The new Bond title had appeared at almost every high-profile showcase and even having its own PlayStation State of Play. I would now expect the game to approach 2 million sales over the weekend.
The game is scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Originally planned to launch alongside the PC, XBOX and PlayStation versions, IO Interactive decided to give the hybrid console’s version more time in the oven. When it launches, it will surely give another boost to sales figures.
