In an unfortunate turn of events, the scariest game from Pax East 2026 has ceased development. Earlier this year we were able to speak to developer Brian Clarke about this title and you could see the pride he felt in his work. It was down to the small details that made it realistic to add to the horror. When a developer takes the time to do his research, you know there is a high expectation they are setting for themselves.
Even as a non-horror fan, tits so sad to hear that the project is will no longer move forward. Clarke took to social media to share the announcement. “It became clear that the game needed more time to ensure it was the best it could possibly be… sadly, Paramount did not agree to extend development,” he states in his post.

The post continues to say that he had a choice, to put out something sub-par or walk away. Clarke chose to walk away. He continues on to shout out DreadXP for standing by him. With the landscape of gaming, it reminds us that in the current landscape of gaming, there is still integrity. Clarke may be stepping away for a bit for what we can assume is well earned vacation. Thankfully for horror fans he plans to return to his corner of horror in the future. Clarke’s message to all who were looking forward to Paranormal Activity: Threshold is honest and even a bit vulnerable. It is also probably what makes his works so terrifying.
While the demo may have shaken me to the core, this just reminds us that no matter what DarkStone Digital does next, it will be well worth the wait.
