With the cost of living rising across the globe, it should not surprise anyone that the impact is being felt in the gaming industry as well. Today, Nintendo announced price hikes to all Switch consoles in several global markets.

Let’s dive into it some more. So, these price adjustments are going to be felt almost immediately in Japan, as price adjustments are slated to kick in on May 25th. The price of the Switch 2 will be jumping around ¥10,000 (from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980). For a quick conversion, that’s a price jump from $319 to $383. But it’s not just the Switch 2 seeing these increases. All iterations of the original Nintendo Switch (Base Model, OLED Model, and Lite Model) will be seeing increases of between ¥8000 to ¥10,000.
These prices to the original Nintendo Switch, however, do not appear to be planned (right now) for the United States, Canada, and Europe marketplaces. That being said though – there will be price hikes to the Switch 2 in these regions. And while these prices will not be taking hold until September 1st, they’ll be…rough. In the United States, the price of a Switch 2 will be going from $449.99 to $499.99. In Canada, the increase will be comparable, albeit it a much higher level ($629.99 to $679.99). The European market does appear to be the lower end of the increases, with a price raise of €469.99 to €499.99.
Prices Changing to Nintendo Switch Online in Japan
These changes, for the time being, don’t appear to be coming to other markets. But in this same announcement, Nintendo noted upcoming price changes to Switch Online Membership in the Japanese market.

These prices, slated for a July 1st start, will see varied levels of increases. These increases will depend on both type of membership and length of membership plan. The biggest hike appears to be in the 12 Month Family Membership Plan for the based Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The new prices will be sitting at ¥1,300 higher at ¥5,800 (roughly $37).
Are these new prices creating a sense of apprehension in getting that new Switch? Personally, for me, yes – they are. But what about you? Leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts!
