Welcome back, Ghost Hunters. Phasmophobia has just released a major player character update, now available on all platforms the game supports. There’s a lot to cover so let’s load in!
Character customization has been a long time coming in Phasmo. If you’ve been around since its early access release in 2020, you probably remember a few hints that it would eventually make its way into the game. Even as recently as the Ascension Update in summer 2023, the developers at Kinetic Games included a customization icon in the GH//OST.OS3 terminal.

New Hunters & Outfits
Players now have the ability to choose between 12 high quality character models. 6 feminine-presenting and 6 masculine-presenting options each with their own bio and hairstyles. From what I’ve seen so far, hairstyles can only be used on the model they come with, although hair color can be changed.
A basic hat, coat, shirt and pants do come as staples, but additional can be purchased. Hats for $3,000, shirts for $5,000, coats and pants for $10,000. Prestige and events will also unlock more options. You can also add lip, eyebrow, nose and ear piercings, as well as glasses, rings and necklace. It costs $2500 to unlock each accessory, but they can be used on all models.
Editing your badge can be done in the same customization area as well instead of the main menu. New badges and backgrounds can be obtained through in game events, challenges and prestige levels.

The Watch
The watch is a brand new addition to the game. On the model’s left hand is now a giant circular watch that lets players know time in round and sanity. To see the watch press the “use” button when your hand is empty or when you open the journal. This will make it easier to clock your own stats instead of constantly asking your teammates “uh what’s my sanity”. If you’re playing on VR, just simply lift your left hand.

Animation Updates
Player’s hands now have animations. Interactions with equipment, objects and other environment pieces will not have their own animations. You do still have to use the center mouse to focus on what object you’re looking to interact with. Flashlights will also now be used with the left hand. Players can drop the flashlight when the right hand is empty.
Rather than being a separate UI item, the journal will now appear in game as an animation when players access it. The light on the journal will not be considered an electronic for ghost abilities, nor trigger your location during hunts, this also applies to the watch.
The death animation has also changed. You
will no longer be transported into that weird red death room and rather transition right from being choked by the ghost to standing near their body. PC VR players can enable/disable this animation and rather see it in third person. This is great for players who get motion sick.
