Belgian indie game studios Badass Mongoose announced today that they have decided to postpone the release of their upcoming monochromatic puzzle game, Helix: Descent N Ascent, from its original release date in May.

It will now release on PC and Nintendo Switch on July 23rd, 2026. Check out the new release date trailer below.

In a press release that went out earlier today, the developers explained that after the “very positive reception” to the game’s demo, the team wanted to add another layer of content to match the scale of their vision. They also felt they needed more time to get the Nintendo Switch version of the game to the same standard as the PC one at launch.

For those of you who haven’t seen or heard it till now, Helix: Descent N Ascent is a black and white puzzle game where you awaken in the strange world of Helix, surrounded by the mysteries of a long forgotten civilisation. With a focus on exploration and puzzlesolving, discover new abilities as you progress through your adventure and combine them to interact with your surroundings to solve the many puzzles that await!

The key features of Helix: Descent N Ascent include:

Solve puzzles with the assistance of a strange doppleganger. Are they friend or foe?
Mix and match your growing roster of abilities.
A narrative that reflects on identity, solitude, and relationships.
Evocative art style inspired by 1980s indie comics, 1990s manga, and 1970s Franco-Belgian comics.
A dreamlike score composed by Jum Guthrie (Below, Nobody Saves the World).

While the delay is a good two months, it sounds like the Badass Mongoose wants to make sure that both PC and Switch fans will get the best experience at launch, as well as adding more content, and we can’t be mad about that.
