Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Joins The Nintendo Switch Online Gamecube Library

During the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, one of the biggest surprises was the announcement that Nintendo GameCube games would be added to the subscription library, only available on the Switch 2. With both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness teased in the initial reveal, Pokémon fans have eagerly been awaiting the games to hit the service, and with XD being shown off in the Pokémon Presents last month, we knew they wouldn’t have to wait long.

Announced that the game would be available Tuesday night, the 2005 sequel to Pokémon Colosseum is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness was developed by Genius Sonority and released in August 2005 in Japan and in October that same year in North America.

The game is a spin-off of the main series developed by Game Freak. Taking place in the Orre region, the game features double battles only and an emphasis on shadow Pokémon, which you must work on capturing throughout the game and return them to their normal state.

Pokémon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness both originally featured compatibility with the GBA titles Pokémon Firered/Leafgreen and Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, with you being able to trade the creatures back and forth between the titles, provided you finished the game and had the accessories needed.

While that feature will not be here in the GameCube classics version, other Switch Online features, such as enhanced emulation and save states, will be available for anyone jumping in for the first time, or anyone looking to replay this classic.

Will you be jumping into Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness on Switch 2, or have you got your fix with Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen and Pokémon Pokopia? Let us know in the comments, or join us over in the Gamer Social Club Discord to let us know there!
