For the second time in 6 months, the super bold and creative team at Double Fine is releasing a game. Today the studio, alongside Xbox Game Studios announced that their online pottery brawler Kiln will release on April 23rd.
If you haven’t seen Kiln before and had to do a double take on that last sentence, no it wasn’t a typo. Kiln is a multiplayer brawler where players will design and fight to the death with their own clay pot. It’s the type of game that makes Double Fine stand out with its art style and crazy game play. Kiln was first announced at the Xbox Dev Direct in January of this year.

Kiln pits two teams of four against one another in a battle to collect water and quench the other teams Kiln. Do so 3 times and that team will win. During the battle players will try to hit and destroy enemy pots to prevent them from taking the water to the Kiln while trying to attack the enemies Kiln. All of this leads to fun chaos, as Kiln is designed to be packed full of action and entertainment.
Before jumping into a battle, players will shape their own pot out of clay. Depending on what type of pot the player designs, its stats will vary. Design a smaller pot and be able to move much quicker but hold less water and be easier to break. On the other hand, you can create a much larger pot but it will take a while to fill with water and even longer to get it the Kiln, leaving it open to many attacks.
All of this will lead to an enjoyable game and fun for all ages as it looks to bring a fun, free spirited game to young kids and adults alike.

Open Beta Coming
Also announced today is that ahead of the games launch on April 23rd an open beta will take place from April 9th-11th. The beta will allow players to test the servers as well as help Double Fine see what players like, and perhaps don’t, in order to shape the game moving forward.
Pre-orders for the game will also go live once the beta begins. A standard edition for $19.99USD will be available as well as the Fired Up edition for $29.99USD. The Fired Up edition will be packed with premium glazes, stickers, attachments, custom pots and bonus in-game currency known as chips.
Kiln launches April 23rd for Xbox Series S/X, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. It will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title and available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
