Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem has been a smash hit, selling over 5 million copies in its first week and going on to become one of the best selling games of the year. Much like with previous mainline entries, the publisher has now confirmed that a story focused expansion is on the way, and that there will be new content arriving in May.
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s iconic long-running survival horror franchise. This entry introduces Grace Ashcroft, an FBI investigator researching the mysterious death of her mother, Resident Evil: Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft. During her investigation she crosses paths with Leon S. Kennedy, who the player switches to as the story progresses.
In a video released on Capcom’s social media channels, director Koshi Nikanashi reveals that the team is planning to release a new update with fixes and a Photo Mode. In May, he teases that the game will receive new content, and reveals that it will be a “mini-game”, before revealing that a story expansion is currently in development that will “delve deeper into the world of Requiem”.

Nikanashi reveals that this DLC will “take some time” to develop, implying this could be a case like with Village’s DLC where production did not begin until after the main game shipped. It’s not yet known what scale this DLC will be, so it might not be wise to expect it to release in 2026.
The “mini-game” on the other hand has the potential to be a new version of The Mercenaries mode introduced in Resident Evil 3, with further iterations in the fourth, fifth, and sixth entries, before making a return in Village and Resident Evil 4’s remake. Given the revamped combat of Requiem, this has the potential to be one of the best iterations of the mode yet.
Resident Evil Requiem is available now for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
