Monochrome Puzzle Game Helix: Descent N Ascent Gets A Release Date

Belgian indie game studio Badass Mongoose announced the release date for their atmospheric puzzle-adventure Helix: Descent N Ascent during The Mix x Kinda Funny Spring Game Showcase 2026. All of you puzzle fans out there can look forward to exploring its monochrome world when Helix: Descent N Ascent launches on May 21st onto PC and Nintendo Switch.

Here is how the game’s Steam page summary describes it:

“Journey into the forgotten world of Helix, where ancient powers awaken within you. Unlock and combine embodied abilities to unravel the mysteries of a lost civilization. Descend into a tale that will challenge your mind and soul, solving intricate puzzles as you ascend to the light of a new day.”

Helix: Descent N Ascent features no combat and instead focuses on puzzling and exploration, with you awakening in a dull and disembodied world. Usually alone, you soon encounter a doppleganger who appears to do the opposite of everything you do. Who are they, and are they friend or foe?

Unlock new spells as you progress, and master the mix-and-match system, allowing you to combine your powers. The game features 25 distinct ways to play, as well as 3 levels of complexity, letting players adjust the difficulty as they play.

As you explore this strangely beautiful black-and-white world, inspired by 1980s indie comics, 1990s manga, and 1970s Franco-Belgian comics, the game asks you to reflect on the themes of identity, solitude, and relationships. Layered with mysteries, hidden details, and multiple ways to tackle each puzzle, Helix: Descent N Ascent promises a story and world that players will want to revisit.
