Marathon: 100% Achievement / Trophy Guide

Check out what you need to do to unlock all 14 achievements / trophies with our Marathon 100% Achievement / Trophy Guide.

Marathon is here! Yes, after delays, many alphas, and a touch of controversy, Bungie’s newest entry into the extraction shooter world is here. Marathon, the latest title in the series, the last one being released in 1996, takes us to Tau Ceti IV. Set in the year 2893, the colony ship Marathon has been missing for nearly 100 years. However, for the sake of plot devices, it’s just made contact via one of the ship’s AIs.

Of course, Earth is full of mega-corporations and dodgy groups of ‘Factions’ looking to make a credit or two (hmm, seems familiar). With that in mind, they send you, and plenty of other ‘Runners’ to Tau Ceti IV. They want you to grab all valuable items, data and resources. Of course, you’re not physically going, as you’re a Runner, you’ve given up your physical form for enhanced cybernetic ones. Your mind is placed in a ‘shell’ body that makes it easy to replicate you, should something…unforuntate happen. And believe me, it will.

And here we are, you’re about to make a name for yourself across the factions, and with any luck, come out with a whole load of loot!

Marathon 100% Achievement / Trophy Guide

But what do you need to do to get all the achievements / trophies in this new shooter? Well if you’ve checked out our achievement / trophy list you might have an idea, but we’ve got some guidance of what’s required. For the most part, you’ll unlock the majority of them from just putting in the time and playing the game. However, it is good to have in mind them if you’re hunter.

Escape Will Make Me…

100G / Platinum trophy.

To unlock complete all other achievements / trophies in Marathon.

Welcome to Tau Ceti

40G / Silver trophy

To unlock, complete or skip your initial run.

Surely, this one is impossible to miss if you play through to the very beginning of the game. You’ll either go on your first run in Perimeter – Beginner, or you’ll skip it and dive on in (dive on in) to the main game. Naturally, we recommend starting with Perimeter Beginner, as this is designed for low level Runners to get to grips with the game and how it works.

Either way, do the tutorial run, or finish a normal run and you’ll unlock this one.

Everything Runs on CyberAcme

60G / Silver trophy

To unlock, re-establish communication with the Sol system.

This is unlocked by completing the Welcome to Tau Ceti I contract. It’s the first priority contract you get. Complete the first two parts of the contract to unlock this one.

Run Executable

60G / Gold trophy

To unlock, complete 21 runs.

You don’t need to be successful, you just to need to go on 21 runs to unlock. It should pop at the end run report screen. So you can fail, die immediately, or succeed, it all counts.

Run, Repeat

80G / Gold trophy

To unlock, exfil successfully 7 times.

So for this one, you need to have a successful run and make it to a matter transporter to escape the run. These are located on the map with the yellow / greeny points on the map with an arrow in them. They appear just after five minutes in a run. The ones with a skull in them are ‘guarded exfils’ and will spawn UESC enemies if you activate the exfil.

Succeed in getting out 7 times and POP. You can be down but not out when the countdown ends and it will still count.

This is Marathon

40G / Silver trophy

To unlock, experience shell death for the first time.

Easy. Die, proper. Not downbut not out, as in properly dead (dead on the ground).

Jackpot

60G / Gold trophy

To unlock, loot 777 containers.

This will come eventually as you play the game. You should be scavenging as you go, open the many different containers scattered around. I’m not sure what classes as a container proper (as in, if something doesn’t) but I would say that the white and orangey / red ones are definitely ‘containers’.

Antiestablishment

60G / Gold trophy

To unlock, eliminate 147 UESC units

These are the robots dude that patrol the map, not runners. This should come naturally as you play. Areas often get reinforcements so you could farm some if you hang around a particular location. That being said, it shouldn’t take too long to unlock.

RIP UESC

80G / Gold trophy

To unlock, eliminate 28 UESC commanders.

These are the super up robot enemies you’ll find on runs. They usually have stronger shields (indicated by a coloured shield icon) as well as better weaponry. They can pack a punch so work together as a team, or be tactical.

You’ll know if you’ve killed one as the description will have the “Cmdr” wording when you make the kill and are awarded expereince points.

End Run

80G / Gold trophy

To unlock, eliminate 14 rival runners.

This again should come naturally as you play. Runners are the rival players in the game. I suspect your ass will get kicked initially, but you’ll soon get to grips with the game and exact your revenge!

To unlock, complete 35 contracts.

Contracts are given to you by Faction leaders. You can select your active contract from the main menu before going on a run. Just head to the Factions screen, pick your Faction, then your contract. You can choose priority contracts which progress the main missions / quests for Factions. Then there are standard contracts, these can be done more than once. You can only have one active contract at a time.

Should be one you get as you progress. You’ll have to pay attention to what you need to do to complete a contract. Read the wording carefully to make sure you’re in the right area. One that sticks in my mind is “south of South Relay” in Perimeter. This wasn’t in the South Relay area, but a small station further away.

It is likely you will not get to complete a contract on every run. However, supporting your teammates to complete contracts also gets you experience. You’ve got to learn when you can and can’t make a contract work. Check your map, and see how close you are. Communicate with your teammates either by pinging or with a mic.

Some contracts have you running all over the map, backwards and forwards, and some have time limits too. When you’re near a contract marker for one of your objectives, you’ll usually see a yellow icon. If it involves an enemy, it’ll be red. At the moment, you have to be quite close, but Bungie have promised to update the range slightly. I think this is because people have been getting lost (me, I’m people).

Don’t jeopardise your team or a run for a contract.

Reliable Asset

80G / Gold trophy

To unlock, reach VIP status with a faction.

To unlock this, you’ll need to reach level 30 with a Faction. Levelling up requires you to earn experience points by completing runs, taking out UESC forces and Runners, and of course, completing contracts.

Cutting Edge

80G/ Gold trophy

To unlock, unlock 7 capstone upgrades.

You’ll find upgrades in the Factions menus. As you raise your rank with a Faction, more upgrades become available to unlock. Some of these can be bought with just currency (credits), and others require credits and materials that you scavenge whilst out on runs. At the bottom of each upgrade screen you’ll see circles with numbers I-VI in them. These are the capstone upgrades.

They become available to unlock for every six upgrades you unlock elsewhere on that screen. Everytime you unlock an upgrade you’ll notice a portion of a circle fills in. Once it’s full (as in you’ve unlocked six upgrades), you can go to it and select ‘unlock’. Repeat this seven times to unlock the achievement / trophy.

Seasoned Veteran

100G / Gold trophy

To unlock, earn 100 Season Levels.

This is the one that is likely to be the most time consuming. Any experience you earn contributes to your season level. Note that this isn’t the Faction level. At the end of a run, it’s the big yellowy bar at the top. Every level grants you Silk currency and some credits.

Earn 100 of these to nab the achievement / trophy. It’s isn’t clear at this point if you need to earn all 100 levels in a single season before reset, which is every three months. The wording suggests you could earn 100 levels, total, over the course of multiple seasons, however this isn’t confirmed.

And that’s it. As I said at the start, fairly self explanatory stuff, but I hope there was some useful pointers in there for you. How are you enjoying Marathon? Check out our other Marathon guides below.
