Psychedelic Western Metroidvania Blighted Gets A New Release Window Alongside Switch 2 Announcement

As part of today’s Nintendo Indie World presentation, Drinkbox Studios, developers of the Guacamelee! series, Severed and Nobody Saves the World, announced that their upcoming game, Blighted, would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PC later this Fall.

Originally revealed last year at Summer Games Fest, Blighted is an isometric Metroidvania action-RPG set in a psychedelic Western nightmare where you fight to reclaim the memories of your people. Harness “Blight” by defeating enemies to change the world around you, granting you greater powers and, at the same time, increasing the game’s difficulty. Play through the whole campaign solo or in co-op and master your control of the Blight to modify combat encounters, unlock hidden paths, and discover secrets, before your own Blight overtakes you.

In a press release that went out shortly after the Indie World Showcase announcement, Blighted’s key features are listed as:

  • Intense combat: Combat in Blighted is nuanced and deadly. Carefully time your attacks to weave through enemies, chain together combos, and perform powerful finishers.
  • Harness your Blight: The player’s own Blight serves as a dynamic difficulty system that constantly changes the enemies, the player, and the world around them as they play.
  • Consume memories: Devour the brains of defeated bosses to gain their memories and become more powerful (and more Blighted), widening your skillset and opening up new paths in the world.
  • Unlock mysteries: Pay careful attention while exploring to unlock the many deep secrets of Blighted’s world.
  • Co-op multiplayer: Optionally team up with a friend in fully playable local or online co-op.
  • Haunting original score: Blighted features new music by Jim Guthrie, acclaimed composer of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Below, and Nobody Saves the World.

Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out the release date for Blighted, or if it will come to any other platforms at or post-launch. If you’re looking forward to the next game from Drinkbox Studios as much as we are, be sure to check back here at the GSC for more Blighted news.
