The Keanu Reeves renaissance continues and he’s back in video game format. Rumoured to be in development for some time now, a game centered around John Wick has been revealed at Sony’s State of Play. As expected, it looks to be a downright brutal action game which emulates the style of the movies.

In a brief glimpse of the gameplay, it looked somewhat reminiscent of Sifu as John looks like he can heavily use the environment to his advantage during combat. I also got vibes from the underrated action title back on the 360, Stranglehold which was John Woo’s foray into video games.
Saber interactive is handling the development of John Wick in this collaboration with Lionsgate and franchise director Chad Stahelsk. Saber Interactive is an excellent choice as they’re known for making great action games Such as Space Marine 2. Given that Space Marine had a mix of shooting and melee, they’ll likely be able to translate the hand to hand and gun fu action John Wick is known for to a video game rather well.

The John Wick franchise has been the defining action movie franchise for the past 12 years now. The universe has also spawned spin-offs in TV and film. It’s great to see it finally stepping into videogames in a way that people want to see. While John Wick had a decent game in John Wick Hex, a tactical strategy game isn’t something people wanted.
No release date for John Wick yet but it’s being developed for PS5, PC and Xbox Series platforms.
