If there’s one genre that I’ve come to really enjoy in the last 6 months, it’s visual novels. As a mature gamer with limited time and the want to sometimes play games with one hand – thanks, kids – they’ve become a personal go-to.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with humorous Steam free game, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog before reviewing the most British game imaginable – Sips and Sonnets. Short, sweet and capable of telling emotional tales in a short time, the genre is a real delight and not short on quality.
Next week, current Switch 2 exclusive, Dear me, I was… will arrive on PC, mobile and the original Switch. The title released on Switch 2 in August of last year to ‘Generally Favorable’ review scores on Metacritic with high praise for its watercolour visual style and soundtrack.
The Arc System Works game depicts a life of a woman with “ordinary and modest life…experience her joys, her sorrows, her growth.”. As a new fan the genre, I’ll surely be keeping an eye on Dear me, I was… as it launches on new platforms on 12 February 2026.
