Respawn Entertainment has announced it will sunset Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch later this year, with the battle royale becoming unplayable on the platform from 4th of August 2026.
In a statement shared on social media, the studio said Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on Switch, with the game continuing on Nintendo Switch 2 and other supported platforms. From the launch of Season 30 on the 4th of August, the Switch version will no longer run, bringing the five-year-old console port to a close.

Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch. Future seasons of Apex Legends will continue to be available on Nintendo Switch 2.
– Starting August 4, 2026…
Respawn says Switch players can keep playing as normal until the cut-off date, continuing to earn rewards and play matches “per usual” until the service ends.
The company will also continue selling in-game currency up to the shutdown date. However, it is warning players to pay close attention to how their Apex Coins carry across devices. Apex Coins purchased or earned on Switch remain tied to Nintendo consoles, meaning they don’t transfer to non-Nintendo platforms even if cross-progression is enabled. Cosmetic items purchased on Switch can still carry across platforms, but the currency balance itself will not; unless the player moves to Switch 2.
Put simply, Spex players either need to use their currency before the 4th of August, or upgrade to the Switch 2 version to keep their coins. Respawn has clarified that players don’t need to upgrade immediately on the 4th, their balance will be kept tied to their Nintendo account, with timeframes set by local market laws.
