The Bubsy series just refuses to die. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Bubsy 4D is the latest in the now Atari-owned series of infamous platformers, this time courtesy of Demon Turf developer Fabraz. Today, Atari and Fabraz have announced that Bubsy 4D will release this May, alongside details of a physical collector’s edition.
Bubsy made his debut on Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993 with Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. The game was the project of a wider trend of 90s “mascot platformers”, attempting to rival Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. Bubsy was successful enough to receive two sequels before eventually making its 3D debut with Bubsy 3D, a very early 3D platformer that is often considered one of the worst games of all time.
Nowadays, the series maintains an ironic self-awareness, with Fabraz’s upcoming game genuinely seeming to be a very competent 3D platformer. The latest trailer pokes fun at this perception, highlighting both criticism and praise towards the demo released during Steam Next Fest, while also revealing that the game will launch on May 22.
Furthermore, physical pre-orders for the Bubsy 4D collector’s edition will go live later today on Atari’s Online Store. The collector’s edition will include a double-sided poster, a physical game (seemingly fully on cartridge), a 24-page manual, and a separate art book. So far, this edition is only confirmed for Nintendo Switch (priced at $39.99 USD) and Nintendo Switch 2 (priced at $49.99 USD). The standard edition game will be released on all platforms digitally for $19.99 USD.

Bubsy 4D will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 22.
