Ubisoft has unfortunately had a lot of downs recently and even more were surfaced as it was announced that multiple games in development were cancelled, with the company restructuring. Among these was the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time.
There was one game that managed to survive the purge according to Insider Gaming however that’s honestly a bit surprising, Beyond Good & Evil 2. The game has been languishing in development hell for quite some time as it’s had a lot of roadblocks. Most notably the departure of Michael Ancel from the game industry left gamers wondering if that was the nail in the coffin.
Insider Gaming reported that the game is still in development following the Ubisoft announcement. Now, a Ubisoft spokesperson has responded to their report to say “Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains a priority for us in the context of our strategy centred around Open World Adventures,” As to the actual level of development the game is in, is unknown.
It was surprising that the game entered development as while the first game was critically acclaimed, it performed poorly. Ubisoft must truly believe in the sequel as it has been in active development since around 2008 now. It actually has broken Duke nukem Forever’s record for longest game in development.
It’s far from impossible for a game to succeed after being in development hell. Dead Island 2 is a recent example after being stuck for almost 8 years. However, if Beyond Good & Evil 2 ever does release, it will have some lofty expectations to say the least. It is a bit of positive news that Ubisoft is still willing to keep an ambitious project like it alive.
