Halo: Campaign Evolved Comes to PlayStation to Grow the Halo Community

Rewind the clock to the launch of the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and yes, even the Xbox Series X/S and the thought that Halo would one day on PlayStation would have had you removed from forums and Discord channels. Now, in 2026 we fully expect that any and every Xbox game will one day make the jump to Sony’s market-leading platform. And why not, the console wars are over and games with diminishing player bases need to grow, right?

Well, if you’d ask the question to leads from Halo Studios – formerly 343 Industries – they say they’re bringing Master Chief’s franchise to PlayStation to grow the community of Halo players. In a new interview with GamesRadar, the studio commented on their decision to bring the game to Sony’s hardware:

“Halo is best played when we have a large, healthy community,” said Creative Director, Szlagor. “We see this as a way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community.”

Halo Studios Executive Producer, Damon Conn adds: “We want to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation, and we’re paving the way to expand our Halo universe – that’s how we see it. And it’s not a small thing. We don’t and we won’t take it lightly. We definitely feel the weight of it.”

Reaffirming their dedication to long-time fans of the franchise, Conn also said “We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years and have them play with an entirely new generation,”

It’s a move that makes sense. There are millions of gamers who will have never played Halo: Combat Evolved, or even its 2021 remaster, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary which released on Xbox 360 before becoming part of the Master Chief Collection.

With player counts that rarely rank highly on the Xbox most played charts (credit: True Achievements), nor Steam where at the time of writing there’s been a 24h peak of 3,000 Halo Infinite players and 6,500 Master Chief Collection players, this move makes sense. PlayStation 5 is the industries premiere home console with many players who were once Xbox and Halo players.

As a huge Halo fan, bringing Campaign Evolved as a relaunch of the franchise to new audiences is a move I’m fully on board with. Bring on cross play with my PlayStation and Steam friends later this year. And for the record, I’m in the ‘sprinting in Halo CE is fine’ camp!

If you’re looking for more Halo to fill the void whilst we wait for Campaign Evolved, why don’t you check out free to play, Spartan Survivors which is now available on Steam. We caught up with the Creator in a GSC exclusive interview last year to talk about its development.
