Original Story – Far Cry 3: Classic Edition 60fps Patch
Whilst everyone hits F5 on their keyboards waiting for the inevitable release date of The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Ubisoft have turned to one of their modern greats for some current-gen remastering. Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 re-release of 2012’s Far Cry 3, will soon be able to run at 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is included with your membership, via Ubisoft+.
The update will release on 21 January 2026. Bizarrely, the below trailer released on PlayStation’s YouTube channel to announce the update, is uploaded at 30fps.
Far Cry 3: Classic Edition 60fps Update Trailer
In my opinion, the greatest entry in the open world FPS franchise, is the most welcome addition to receive this update. The ability to re-torch the drug fields at 60fps whilst listening to Skrillex and Damien Marley’s Bun Dem couldn’t sound any more of a delightful prospect. Truly, one of my greatest moments of the Xbox 360 era.
Perhaps the best-known aspect of Far Cry 3 though is its villain, Vaas Montenegro. The insane, but overly likable antagonist paved the way for the series now well-known baddies which have since been played by actors including Giancarlo Esposito. Vaas even returned as DLC for Far Cry 6 in the Insanity add-on.
Prior to this formal announcement, Ubisoft have also teased that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition and Far Cry: Primal are also in line to get their frame rates boosted on current-gen hardware:

There is currently no new Far Cry game formally announced, though it has been over 4 years since 2021’s Far Cry 6. So it likely won’t be long until Ubisoft bring back one of their greatest and long running franchises.
