Larian Returns To Divinity Franchise For Next Title

Larian Studio’s went to a new level with their last project Baldur’s Gate 3 and today at The Game Awards we got a first look at what they are working on next, Divinity.

Divinity is what had been teased by Geoff Keighley for weeks now with an image that had people thinking it was games like Diablo IV, Lords of the Fallen 2 and others. In the end it was Larian’s other big RPG franchise as they look to continue the momentum they’ve built with Baldur’s Gate 3.

What the trailer shows is an elderly man being strung up and eventually burned alive in a wooden enclosure. While this is happening it seems like the town is having some kind of festival or celebration. As the man finally burns to death and the crowd erupts, suddenly something happens and the mood quickly changes. Some sort of unholy force is unleashed into the town.

After the screens fades to black and returns we see the man and other bodies making up the statue that had been teased by Keighley, seemingly where this unholy force spawned from.

We don’t have many details beyond the trailer as no release date or platforms were mentioned. Considering the name is simply “Divinity” it does seem like Larian is aiming for this to be a reboot of sorts from the previous games, which were critically acclaimed games on their own.

Keighley did say afterwards that Divinity is Larian’s “largest game ever” and “even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3” so expect a massive game. This will be the first game in the Divinity franchise since Divinity Original Sin 2 which released in 2017. It’s likely that Divinity is a 2027 or later game so at 10 years between titles a reboot could make some sense.

We will just have to wait and see when we hear more from Larian, but Divinity has likely shot to the top of many gamers “most anticipated” lists already.
