Capcom Plans to Revitalize Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, and Mega Man Franchises

Since the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017, Capcom has been on a steady roll of AAA single-player releases. While it’s currently in the process of returning to Onimusha and Okami, the company is now looking to grow more of its older IP as core franchises, namely Ace Attorney, Devil May Cry and Mega Man.

While they haven’t received quite the amount of love that Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter have in recent years, these three series haven’t been entirely absent. Devil May Cry 5 launched in 2019 and soon after received a next-generation Special Edition, and a polarizing animated adaptation on Netflix; while Ace Attorney and Mega Man have received ports and collections such as the upcoming Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection and 2024’s Ace Attorney Investigations Collection.

That said, there are some rather large gaps forming between these series’ latest entries. Mega Man 11 launched in October 2018 and, not counting first-time English localizations, the last mainline Ace Attorney game was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice in 2016.

How Capcom Plans to Grow Its IP

In its 2025 Integrated Report, Capcom outlines its intention to expand on its existing IP, stating “We consistently release two to three major new titles each year, but recognize the need to grow our pipeline going forward. Capcom owns a wealth of globally popular brands, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney. We aim to expand our user base and improve our performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware. By enhancing brand power and cultivating loyal fan bases, we will grow these into core IPs.”

The report claims that Devil May Cry 5 sold one million copies in the month of April 2025 alone, implying that while it certainly may have been divisive in some circles, the Netflix adaptation seemingly created a lot of new fans for the series as it reached over 5.3 million viewers globally in its first week and led to a massive sales boost for the almost seven year old game.

The report also reveals that the total sales figure for the series are 33 million units sold, while Ace Attorney’s is now 13 million, and Mega Man’s is 43 million. All franchises’ total sales are up two million from the previous year.

With these numbers in mind, it makes sense that Capcom is keen to spark new life into the series since there are audiences hungry for more while the studio has mainly focused on new entries in other franchises. The implication that these could take the form of remakes or new entries leaves a lot of room for speculation, especially given the success of the Resident Evil series in both aspects.
