Xbox kicked off its November 2025 Partner Preview with a bloody bang with the reveal trailer of Amartus, a gory third-person roguelite shooter, slated to release next year on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and will be coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Developed by Counterplay Games Inc. and published by Fictions, Armatus is set in the demon-infested ruins of Paris, France, in the aftermath of the end of the world. Summoned by four of the last remaining members of Armatus, an ancient religious order, you take on the role of their last supernatural warrior on a quest to reach the lost gateway to heaven, the Sunless Gate.
Matt Cerami, senior writer at Counterplay Games, published a post to Xbox Wire, introducing the Armatus as “an action-packed, gothic-tinged tale about forlorn clerics trapped in a biblical, post-apocalyptic hellscape.
As a mysterious, otherworldly warrior – a deathless entity bound to sacred armor – you will traverse the Scoured Path, and search for The Sunless Gate at its end; a doorway of myth that may hold the keys to their salvation.”
Players will run through the tainted and twisted streets of Paris, arming themselves with their scythe and a gun of their choosing at the beginning of each run. Collect celestial abilities and passive enhancements during your run to empower yourself as you face off against grotesque monsters, and push to go further after each death in hopes of reaching salvation.
According to Matt, “Armatus is frenetic, chaotic, high-octane, and breakable by design. Deep buildcraft and player expression are at the heart of this experience; abilities of every kind can be altered, upgraded, modified, and combined to uncover synergies of staggering devastation.”
