With 2026 right around the corner, and it already looking like it’s going to be an impressive year for gaming, it is important for games to stand out more than ever. French Studio Midgar Studios has been doing that with their upcoming JRPG Edge Of Memories. Today during the Galaxies Gaming Showcase, the studio revealed a new trailer, giving us our first look at the games story.
The third-person action RPG takes place in the world of Heyron which has been ravaged by a blight known as the Corrosion. The Corrosion can turn both humans and wildlife into dangerous monsters, and while the continent of Avaris had long avoided contact with the Corrosion, the habitants of the land are now on the verge of extinction.

Eline, the main protagonist of Edge of Memories, is a wandering Soul Whisperer who offers aid to those suffering from the Corrosion. This all changes when she learns she has a power born from the Corrosion herself which allows her to turn into a Black Beast.
She is joined by her mentor Ysoris and a shaman prince named Kanta. Together the 3 set out to save the dying world and uncover the truth about the Corrosion. The heroes will fight many difficult enemies including Ziegler, a mysterious figure that wields power tied to the Corrosion. There is also Apex, an emissary who claims they can see both the past and the future. Lastly there is the Sanctorium, a religious group who has immense authority in Avaris. The Sanctorium experiments with the Corrosion and uses human test subjects to do so.
Edge of Memories is a sequel to 2021’s Edge of Eternity and is being worked on in collaboration with some of the genre’s biggest names including character designer Raita Kazama (Xenoblade Chronicles™ X), writer Sawako Natori (NieR™), singer Emi Evans (NieR™ / NieR: Automata™), and composers Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger® / Xenogears™) and Mariam Abounnasr (Xenoblade Chronicles™ 3 / ONINAKI™).

Whether you are player returning to the franchise, or entering the series with Edge of Memories, Midgar says that it will be accessible to anyone. They are looking to blend the classic JRPG with a unique artistic touch inspired by French animation. Since it’s first been announced and its first gameplay trailer back in July, you can certainly see the inspirations behind the game.
While we don’t have any firm release date as of yet, we know Edge of Memories is scheduled for 2026. It is being developed for PC, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 by Midgar Studios and published by NACON.
