Having spent a little over 55 hours with FuturLab’s sequel to their 2022 water blasting simulation juggernaut, PowerWash Simulator, let’s see what is under all that dirt and grime. Has FuturLab got another hit on their hands?
Down and Dirty
PowerWash Simulator 2 picks up right after the climactic ending of PowerWash Simulator. You prevented a volcanic eruption, saved the world from time-traveling scientists, and most importantly, saved the mayor’s cat, Ulysses.

Ulysses has had some kittens, and all three of them now live with you in your newly renovated home base, and things are looking up for our nameless hero, well, not exactly nameless. Some of your closest friends refer to you as Washy, so that’s fun. The story of PowerWash Simulator is told through text messages from the town’s folk as you work your way through the jobs. The jewels from the mermaid statue have gone missing, and it’s up to you to find them.
Power Wash HQ
A new addition to PowerWash Simulator 2 is your HQ.
You can return to HQ between jobs to pat the cats and read the newspaper articles on your noticeboard to help you piece together the mysterious theft.
You can also buy furniture to decorate your new digs.

Obviously, the furniture comes filthy and needs to be cleaned before you can place it in the showroom.
Mechanics
PowerWash Simulator 2 plays exactly the same as the original. You arrive at a job and every single surface is caked with filth and muck. Its time to get cleaning.

There are a few different power washing guns to upgrade as you progress through the jobs. However, unlike the first game you are able to sell any equipment you aren’t using anymore so you can use the funds for upgrades.

There is one new piece of equipment called the Swirlforce Surf Aid, it’s a floor cleaner that should make cleaning floors a breeze. Unfortunately, it is outclassed by the second upgrade and feels totally unnecessary.
Gone are the days of spending money on all the different soaps. The new soap dispenser upgrade can be attached and unattached by pressing up and instead of having to continuously buy different soaps for it, it’s on a very generous cooldown.

The climbing equipment has had a bit of an overhaul too. The Scaffold has been adjusted with a ladder being added to the side for easier climbing. A Scissor Lift has also been added. This new piece of equipment allows you to stand in one spot and raise or lower the platform. However, it can’t be driven. Adding the ability to move it while on it would make it more useful.

Cleaning Time
My issue with the original PowerWash Simulator was the levels were so big and took so long, I had to take several big breaks through my playthrough.
PowerWash Simulator 2 has revamped the levels. There are 38 levels so far and each one of them feels different. Even the big levels don’t feel big. They are full of different things and areas to clean.

Some of the levels even open up after you complete them. Opening up new areas to continue the fun.
Performance
I spent my time with PowerWash Simulator 2 on the PC via Steam. It ran smoothly, with no noticeable frame drops. I did have 2 crashes in the 55 hours I spent playing.
The only bug I had was the Scissor Lift on the Theatre level, which couldn’t be moved. So, I had to crawl round on every angle imaginable to get all the grime under it. It was annoying but not game breaking.
I know that there were audio issues with the PS5 version. I didn’t run into any of these issues.
PowerWash Simulator 2 has full controller support.
Verdict
PowerWash Simulator 2 is everything you want from a sequel. Improve the already solid mechanics, add some new fun toys, dozens of different levels and of course that audible DING! from completing a section.
I loved every second I spent with PowerWash Simulator 2 and can’t wait for all the DLC that has to be coming.
If you were a fan of the first, you will absolutely love the second. I’m going to be jumping into the Xbox version to snaffle up those achievements.
