Fighting games continue to be coming up everywhere. It was announced at NYCC that a fighting game based on the Avatar franchise is in development. This pending projected is being developed by the team from Them’s Fightin Herds and Diesel Legacy. The game will feature characters from both The Last Airbender and The Legend Of Korra.

Although only pre-alpha footage has been shown so far, the gameplay already looks pretty crisp and fluid. There’s said to be 12 characters at launch, with Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Azula ,Toph and Sokka being confirmed. There’s also plans to add many more via DLC. Avatar certainly has no shortage of characters from both series to add, not to mention a third series, Seven Havens, on the way as well. It’ll be interesting to see who makes it in from launch. Perhaps they even add the new Avatar to introduce people to the character early.

Gameplay is said to have a heavy focus on movement and will feature and original single player story as well. While Avatar unfortunately hasn’t had a great history with video games, they’re in great hands for a fighting game. Them’s Fightin Herds is often considered one of the most underrated fighters of this era and Diesel Legacy offered a unique take on the genre by incorporating beat ’em up elements. So perhaps the series may finally get a game that rivals the excellence of its shows.
