Onimusha: Way of the Sword Debuts New Story Trailer

With recent reveals such as Resident Evil: Reqiuem and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Capcom is on a roll with anticipation for its upcoming 2026 releases. One of their most anticipated games is the upcoming revival of its classic PlayStation 2 horror-action franchise, Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Originally revealed at The Game Awards 2024, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new entry in the series since 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The game follows Miyamoto Musashi (based on the likeness of Rashomon actor Toshiro Mifune), a samurai who comes into possession of a gauntlet that can absorb the souls of demons and spirits as he makes his way through a dark-fantasy take on Japan’s Edo period.

While there have been plenty of trailers at this point and even hands-on at certain major industry events (to the point where one might begin to wonder when Capcom plans on announcing the release date), Onimusha: Way of the Sword has now received a story-focused trailer as part of Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 Online Program. The trailer gives us the first proper glimpse at the game’s English dub, which seems to predominantly use British actors, something somewhat uncommon in major AAA productions of its kind.

The trailer also gives fans another look at the game’s brutal and stylish combat, one of the game’s most promising features so far, especially if early previews are to be believed. Given Capcom’s familiarity with the action genre and the gorgeous animation on display, there’s yet to be a reason to doubt that Onimusha will be both a return to form for the series and something excitingly new.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
