No Straight Roads Celebrates 5th Anniversary With a New Character

In celebration of the 5th anniversary since the first game launched, Metronomik has an update for No Straight Roads 2 in the form of a new playable character during a press release at Gamescom.

First look at the new character, Casey

The new character, Casey will be a keyboard player. Casey will also be the newest, as well as the youngest member of the band. According to Metronomik, Casey is a character joining the band with a fresh perspective. Just like MayDay and Zuke, Casey will have her own unique fighting style. For those that didn’t play the first game, MayDay was more a power hitter while Zuke had a lot of quick combos as you as you attacked to the beat of his drums. It’ll be interesting to see how Casey plays in the upcoming rhythm based hack-n-slash.

Casey’s announcement comes with some new concept art as well.

“With her love for accessories and patchwork clothing, Casey’s look is a blend of many different influences,” said Daim Dziauddin, Creative Director at Metronomik. “Her fashion reflects where she is as a person, as she begins to explore her identity. And as the youngest member of Bunk Bed Junction, Casey’s story lets us explore the band from a newcomer’s perspective, while making her a keyboardist shows the band’s desire to grow. They are rock at heart, but like many artists, they want to expand their style and explore new techniques.”

There’s still one more character to show off for No Straight Roads 2. Perhaps it could be another new band mate? Maybe even DK West, Zukes older brother from the first game who was portrayed as a legendary rapper. Appreciation of all music and accepting people’s differences were overarching themes of No Straight Roads. Thankfully it looks like those themes will continue for the sequel. Metronomik has announced that Casey will be fully playable in an upcoming demo at Tokyo Game Show in September. Perhaps we’ll get a glimpse at the new character there as well.

A message from the game director and CEO of Metronomik was also shared, thanking fans for their support of the title over the past few years. “Five years on, NSR still belongs to the fans,” said Wan Hazmer, Game Director and CEO at Metronomik. “Casey opens new musical routes and new ways to play. We cannot wait for everyone to meet her.”

“This anniversary announcement is a thank you to everyone who supported NSR from day one,” said Idir Alexander Ould-Braham, Executive Producer. “NSR2 raises the bar for combat and personality, and showcasing Casey as the third main character is the perfect start.”

There isn’t an official release date but No Straight Roads 2 is looking to launch sometime in 2026. In the meantime, I do recommend trying the first game out as it was a great attempt at the rhythm based hack-n-slash style before hi-fi rush took the world by surprise.

Eventually, I grew to love fighting games in particular and began to compete and even win competitions for some games, primarily the 2013 revival of killer instinct. Outside of gaming I also have aspirations of being a comic book artist with a few ideas of my own im developing in my head. When reviewing any game I try to keep my mind open and avoid nitpicking too much. It takes a lot for something to detract me from truly enjoying it so I may not focus on smaller details the way some others might do. I enjoy almost any genre, just don't ask me to play horror games or puzzle games.
