Hand-drawn video games are becoming more common-place as the technology of gaming advances. From Cuphead to Hollow Knight to Hades, this style captures a certain aesthetic that others cannot. I know that like me, you all have been inundated with news from Gamescom 2025. One snippet in the deluge of news is that we now have a release date for Bye Sweet Carole.
Bye Sweet Carole, if I’m being blunt, looks like something in the same fashion as the earlier eras of Disney. I’m thinking those classics like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Styles that I wish Disney would step back, to as I love this type of animation. In this new trailer for the game, we’re given a deeper look into the world of Corolla, a world outside our own. Meanwhile, the real-world story is set in the early 1900’s and right around the time of women’s suffrage. Lana Benton must embark on a treacherous and spooky (she doesn’t know it yet) journey to find her best friend, Carole Simmons.

Along the way in this 2D dark narrative-horror game, Lana will need to tread carefully. If she fails to do so, however, she’ll meet a gruesome end. The gameplay itself will chiefly focus on Lana shifting between her human form and newly granted powers of shape-shifting into a rabbit. There’s a lot of rabbits in Corolla: most are not friendly.
