Last year, Ubisoft announced that it was teaming up with Dead Cells co-developer Evil Empire to create The Rogue Prince of Persia. The game is a rogue-like that takes inspiration from the classic franchise’s roots blending 2D action-platforming elements with an ever expanding genre. Today, during the Xbox @ Gamescom Broadcast, it was announced that the game is out now.
The Rogue Prince of Persia was initially announced in April 2024 for an early access release the following month. Since then it has received multiple updates as it readies for its full 1.0 launch. The game shares no connection to last year’s other 2D Prince of Persia game, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but it similarly returns to the 2D platforming roots of the series. It also represents a continued revival ahead of the long-awaited release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
Evil Empire and Ubisoft have also announced that The Rogue Prince of Persia is also part of Xbox Game Pass. This means subscribers of Microsoft’s service will receive the game at no extra cost. It’s not yet clear which tiers of Xbox Game Pass will receive the title. However, most day-one releases are limited to the Ultimate tier for console users.
The launch trailer confirms that the game will not be releasing on Nintendo platforms just yet, with the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions planned for later this year. As of right now, The Rogue Prince of Persia is out today for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
