Ratatan Announces New Early Access Release Date

Patapon spiritual successor Ratatan has finally announced a new early access release date following its sudden delay last month.

Developer Ratata Arts originally slated the game to release on July 25, however it was revealed in a Steam blog post on July 4 that the game would be pushed back to refine certain features following feedback from a public demo release during Steam Next Fest.

Now, only one month after the announcement of the delay, Ratata Arts and publisher Game Source Entertainment have announced that Ratatan will launch in early access on Steam on September 19th. The team has also teased a special livestream that will be broadcast on September 14, and will reveal upcoming event information, a post-release roadmap, and more.

Ratatan is a spiritual successor to Japan Studio’s Patapon series for the PlayStation Portable, which recently received a remaster for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game is a rogue-like rhythm game that was successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2023 and raised over Â¥219,314,335 (approx. $1,483,191 USD) from 14,598 backers.

Like in Patapon, Ratatan sees the player controlling a squad of up to 100 characters that are commanded through rhythm button inputs, blending rhythm gameplay and tactical elements. Ratatan however incorporates new rogue-like elements, allowing players to build their squads out over time in runs as opposed to Patapon’s level based progression.

Ratatan is currently slated to release on PC in early access on September 19 2025.
