Octopath Traveler 0 Arrives This Year on Consoles and PC

HD-2D games are having a real moment and it all started with Octopath Traveler which launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018. The title jumped to all other platforms in the years after, with the sequel also arriving on all platforms.

The game has inspired other HD-2D likes including the highly successful Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake, and it’s follow up that launches later this year Dragon Quest I+II HD-2D Remake.

Now, at today’s Nintendo Partner Direct (read our recap of all titles featured) we got our first look at Octopath Traveler 0.

In the footage for the new game we’re told that players can customise their protagonist for the first time. There will be over 30 recruitable party members and the Break & Boost battle system will return.

Octopath Traveler 0 “brings all-new features and returning core elements from the series, including the series’ iconic HD-2D graphics blending retro pixel art and 3D CG art, Path Actions to interact with other characters in various ways, the Break and Boost battle system which can turn the tide of battle, and more.

And for the first time in series history, fans will play through the eyes of their own customized protagonist and be able to rebuild their hometown after great destruction is brought to it. Embark on a journey of your own creation.”

When does Octopath Traveler 0 release

Octopath Traveler 0 releases on December 4 2025 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, both physically and digitally later this year. Physical pre-orders are available now.

The game also releases on the same date for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. Unfortunately there is no option for Xbox One gamers.
