Developer Rock Square Thunder have revealed their first look at gameplay for new title, I Hate This Place, which will launch on consoles and PC later this year.
The game is inspired by the comic book series created by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topili, with the games art style keeping the comic’s art style. The game will blend horror, dark humour and ‘just the right touch of camp and gore’ which you can see in the gameplay reveal trailer:
I Hate This Place Gameplay Trailer
I Hate This Place is a craft-based, isometric survival horror game with an ‘80s horror vibe’. Players play as Elena, who is in a battle for survival against twisted monsters and warped realities. Elena will need to check her surroundings, defeat enemies and be remain vigilant to survive the hostile world.

In the game’s location, Rutherford Ranch, players will “Explore a harsh and unforgiving wilderness and scavenge for resources. Craft weapons and supplies to fortify your shelter by day and prepare for nightfall, as that is when all hell tends to break loose.†Making use of a day-night cycle, players will need to make use the daylight to loot, craft and explore ahead of the monsters coming out to play at night.

There are numerous ways to play with stealth an encouraged option, as players can use sound to lead unsuspecting foes into their traps. There’s guns if you’d rather get more up close and personal.
The game looks to be a lot of fun and could definitely scratch the survival horror itch until we get Resident Evil Requiem early next year.
I Hate This Place will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch. The game is set to launch in Q4 2025, PC gamers can wishlist on Steam or the Epic Games Store now.
