It’s been thirty years since the first Suikoden game was released. While perhaps not quite as recognizable as Final Fantasy, Suikoden has a strong and dedicated fan base. The franchise continues to be a main stay in the JRPG world that has only grown over the years. Now, the fan base has much to look forward to as Konami announced upcoming Suikoden Live on August 5th.

This broadcast is set to run for ninety minutes and will feature new information about the series. Ninety minutes feels like quite a bit of time, but perhaps we’ll hear more on some anticipated projects.
What is Suikoden?
For those unfamiliar with Suikoden, the first game was first released in Japan December 1995 with North America and Europe to coming in later years. Suikoden tells the story of political struggles of the Scarlet Moon Empire. Players seek out 108 warriors, known as the the 108 Stars of Destiny, to bring peace to the land. Over ninety characters were usable in combat and finding the right combination would help the hero. Wrong combinations could be quite difficult to manage. Since it’s initial release, there have been five mainline game entries and various spin off games.

What do we know so far?
We already know Suikoden will be receiving an anime which was announced early this year. Perhaps we will get to see more information on the upcoming anime during the Suikoden Live broadcast. At the time of it’s announcement, there were not many details to share. Months later, perhaps Konami and the director of the project Yuzo Sato will be ready to share more details.
There is also Suikoden STAR LEAP but does not yet have a release date. While STAR LEAP will be a gacha game, it will be canon to the mainline series. Those interested can already wishlist the game on Steam.
What could we hope for?
With Suikoden I & II getting the HD remaster treatment earlier this year, perhaps we’ll hear some news on remasters of other games in the series? With Final Fantasy Tactics getting a remaster later this year, could we also see the revival of Suikoden Tactics? At the Suikoden Live Broadcast in March, Konami shared intentions on growing the fan base of this franchise. With an anime, a touring concert, a stage play, and and remasters, what else could we expect? Will there be an announcement of Suikoden VI coming?
