Assassin's Creed Shadows has been a big success for Ubisoft in what has been some very turbulent times for the publisher. The game is the third biggest release in the long-running franchise which has spanned three generations, many mainline games, plenty of spin-offs and a Hollywood movie. We highly recommended the game in our review, saying it is "one of the best titles in the entire franchise".
Earlier this year we brought you the news that Shadows has a Year 1 Roadmap including free story content, New Game+, parkour updates and more.
We now have details of what is coming to the game this summer, and when. There are quality of life improvements, New Game+ and the expansion release, Claws of Awaji.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Summer Roadmap
Over the coming weeks and months we will see the following content come to the game:
July 29 - Progression update and New Game+:
This free update includes a level cap increase, New Game+, new achievements and trophies and more. There will also be new content in the store - which is unsurprising after Ubisoft recently commented that microtransactions can make games "more fun".
Early September - Quality of life improvement update:
Another free update includes the ability to fast forward the time of day, updates to the hideout and the ability to uncap framerates in cutscenes (PC only). There will be other further undisclosed free updates.
September 16 - Claws of Awaji expansion – free for pre-order customers
The first big expansion for Shadows arrives September 16 and includes 10+ hours of new content featuring both Naoe and Yasuke. There will be a new region to explore, a new weapon and abilities to play with and a new enemy faction. As we previously knew, Claws of Awaji will be free for those who pre-ordered the game.

Ubisoft have doubled-down on Shadows and clearly see the longevity of the title a key priority. There are many more Assassin's Creed games and projects in the works, but it sounds like Shadows will have legs for the foreseeable future.
And in case you missed it, Netflix are also now working with Ubisoft on a live action Assassin's Creed series which will launch on the streaming service in the future.
