Borderlands developer Gearbox have confirmed that their upcoming looter shooter, Borderlands 4 will also launch on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
Ever the vocal, Head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford confirmed in another one of his rather awkward talking head videos that the game will be coming this year to Nintendo's new console that he calls a "freaking awesome platform":

Borderlands 4 release date
He says that although "game development is very hard", the game will launch "not next year, it's not even the holiday, its so much before Christmas, it's so much before Thanksgiving, it's October 3".
Already confirmed on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC for a release on September 12 2025, Borderlands 4 will launch on to Switch 2 the following month.
The game looks to take advantage of many of the Switch 2's features. For Switch 2 there will be 4 player local ad-hoc co-op, with up to 4 consoles. The game will also support the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode.
According to Pitchford, the game will run at "mostly around 30 fps, with some dips in some intense moments heavy combats or if hosting a multiplayer game in handheld mode, etc."
Will Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 be a Game-Key Card
It sounds like Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 will be a Game-Key Card. Responding to a user on X (Twitter), Pitchford was asked if the game would be a physical cartridge or a Game-Key Card. He responded with saying: "It’s a big game. There will be a download, even for physical copies."
We recently learnt that Nintendo were asking Switch 2 users in Japan about their attitudes towards Game-Key Cards.
Borderlands 4 gameplay and story trailer
We've already had a deep dive of Borderlands 4 gameplay at the PlayStation Borderlands State of Play earlier this summer.
Borderlands 4 takes place 6 years after the events of Borderlands 3. Gearbox also released the Borderlands 4 story trailer last month.
There's not much longer to wait for Borderlands 4 on all platforms, starting with PC, Xbox and PlayStation in September. And now Switch 2 in October.
Will you be checking out the game when it comes out? What is your favourite from the series mainline or spin off games to-date? Any other Tales from the Borderlands fans out there?
