Last week was one of Xbox’s worst weeks in a long time. Huge layoffs at major studios and projects like Everwild and Perfect Dark cancelled – with it’s studio, The Initiative closed.
In what to some seemed like a plaster on a gaping wound, Helldivers 2 was confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X/S on August 26, the same day as Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of one of Xbox’s most legendary games of all times.
Will Helldivers 2 be in Game Pass?
As with any new Xbox launch, Game Pass subscribers were asking _ will Helldivers 2 be on Game Pass?
The unfortunate news is no, Helldivers is not coming to Game Pass. On the Helldivers 2 Discord, Community Manager Baskinator was asked if the game will launch in Microsoft’s cornerstone subscription service. In a straight to the point reply, Baskinator responded “Definitely not.”.
It may not be a surprise that Helldivers 2 is not coming to Game Pass as the title is capable of selling big numbers. Helldivers 2 is the fastest selling PlayStation published game of all time, which went on to sell 12 million copies in as many weeks.
Although we’ve seen Sony published series, MLB The Show be in Xbox Game Pass before it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that Helldivers 2 is not in the service. Sony has repeatedly stated that their big first-party games will not launch into PlayStation Plus. Given that Helldivers 2 is still not in PlayStation Plus despite launching back in February 2024, it would likely anger PlayStation gamers if it ended up in Game Pass first.
Furthermore, Sony will be looking to cash in on Xbox players with a lower price of admission as Helldivers 2 is not a $70 game. Currently the game is listed on the Xbox store as £34.99 / CAD $49.99 / USD $39.99.
