As The Last of Us TV show Season 2 recently wrapped up, fans are eager for more. Season 3 is already confirmed and will focus on Abby’s – played by Kaitlyn Dever – story.
We don’t have a release date for Season 3, but it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing it for around another 12 months.
We now know that there’ll be changes to the show’s creative development as Naughty Dog’s, Neil Druckman will be leaving his role in the show to focus on his studio’s gaming projects.
In a statement from Druckman via Naughty Dog’s official Twitter / X, he announced he will be stepping away from the Last Of Us HBO TV show going forward:
— Naughty Dog (@Naughty_Dog) July 2, 2025
His statement “I’ve made the difficult decision to step away from creative involvement in Last Of Us on HBO. With work completed on season 2 and before any meaningful work starts on season 3, now is the time for me to transition my complete focus on naughty dog and its future projects, including writing and directing our next game Intergalactic: the Heretic Prophet, along with my responsibilities as Studio Head and Head of Creative”
Druckman went on to say that being involved in the show has been a career highlight and that he was honored to work with Craig Mazin: “I’m deeply thankful for the thoughtful approach and dedication the talented cast and crew took adapting The Last of Us Part I and the continued adaptation of The Last of Us Part II”
Intergalactic: the Hectic Prophet is Naughty Dog’s only game confirmed to be in active development, it was revealed last year at The Game Awards. As it stands, we have yet to get a release date or window, but one can assume a gameplay trailer would be next for the game.
