Last May, Xbox had a huge hit on it's hands when Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade II launched on to console, PC and Day One in Game Pass. Critical reception for the game was strong and we awarded the game 9/10 in our review, saying "Everything from the story to the graphics and world building to the gameplay have seen massive upgrades from what was already a great original game to deliver a sequel that is one of the can't miss games of 2024".
On August 12, Ninja Theory will release the Enhanced Edition for Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade II. The Enhanced Edition coincides with the release of the game on PlayStation 5, as recently announced.
The Enhanced Edition will launch with:
- Performance Mode (60 FPS)
- Optional game mode: The Dark Rot - where the Dark Rot will grow each time you fail
- Enhanced Photo Mode - including new features and settings
- Developer Commentary - enabling players to listen to Ninja Theory commentary on the game's development

The update will be free to anyone to owns the game on Xbox or PC already. The upgrade will also be including in Game Pass. PlayStation 5 players can purchase the game in the Enhanced Edition for $49.99.
A physical edition of Hellblade II is rumoured to be in development, as found in an ESRB listing. An official announcement has yet to be made.

Hellblade II misleading frame rate debate
Though the game was well received by players, players were upset to hear that the game would launch with only a 30fps mode. At the time, in an interview with GamePro, the VFX Director said this was by choice to make the game more "cinematic".
Now, as the Enhanced Edition launches on to PlayStation for the first time there will be a 60fps option. This will likely be met with discontent by the Xbox community who were there for original launch, with the expectation 30fps would be the limit. Though the upgrade to the 60fps Enhanced Edition is free for Xbox players, players like myself are unlikely to return to the game for a second playthrough.
Though the Enhanced Edition launches with a 60fps option on Xbox Series X, the Xbox Series S will continue to be capped at 30fps.
Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade II Enhanced Edition Comes to Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC on August 12 2025.
