Xbox has shown their commitment to the future of their gaming hardware with a new announcement. It comes just over a week after the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where the ROG Xbox Ally, their upcoming handheld console, was revealed. In a video posted to the official Xbox social media channels, Sarah Bond, the President of Xbox, announced that the publisher and platform holder has struck a “strategic, multi-year partnership” with AMD.
“At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want. That’s why we are investing in our next-generation hardware lineup, across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories.”
The partnership with AMD will see the two companies “co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices,” said Bond, “including our next-generation consoles, in your living room, and in your hands.”
It looks like Xbox has been putting in the work to get this new generation of the brand, platform, and service up and running, building on the foundations they’ve made over the last decade, with backwards compatibility, Game Pass, cloud streaming, and now Play Anywhere.

With this latest announcement, which also clarified that players can look forward to full backwards compatibility with their existing Xbox library, it clarifies Xbox’s commitment to future consoles. No doubt this will come as a relief to many fans, despite Xbox’s seeming lack of interest in supporting physical media.
We are not likely to hear anything about this next-generation hardware till next year at the earliest, but you can be sure that the GSC team will be keeping our eyes peeled for future updates.
