The biggest horror franchise in gaming is back. Capcom today has announced the long-rumored Resident Evil 9, and as expected, it’s as creepy and gory as ever.
Announced today at Summer Game Fest 2025, Resident Evil 9 will be the first game in the long-running series since Resident Evil 4 Remake back in 2023. The series hasn’t seen a new iteration since 2021’s Resident Evil Village. Village went on to be the fastest-selling game in the series, amassing 10 million sales in a little over 3 years.
This latest entry, subtitled Requiem, has the player take on the role of Grace Ashcroft, no doubt tied to the villainous Ashcroft family in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Working as a technical analyst for the FBI, she’s called into her boss’s office for a new assignment, one that will have her facing her past. She must return to the hotel where her mother was murdered, somewhere in what remains of the iconic Raccoon City.

Midway through Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, a video message informed fans they would have to wait a little longer for news on the next entry in the Resident Evil franchise, and it looked as though Capcom would not be sharing anything Resident Evil-related. Fortunately, they meant it quite literally, as the game’s reveal trailer ended the showcase as the archetypal “one more thing”. Geoff introduced the game beforehand, describing it as a “bold shift for the franchise,” with a mixture of survival horror and “high stakes, cinematic action too.”
The trailer ended with the game’s release date of February 27th, 2026, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. A number of us here at the GSC just updated our calendars, and we are sure a bunch of you have as well!
