A year after the game became the surprise hit of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong is finally scheduled to hit Xbox. The game which was a new take on the ancient Sun Wukong mythos launched August of last year to positive reviews and sold over 20 million in its first month, becoming among the fastest selling new IPs ever as well as the first major AAA hit from a Chinese developer.

Announced today on the Black Myth social media accounts, Black Myth: Wukong will launch on Xbox exactly one year to the day of when it launched on PlayStation and PC. The timing of the release will ultimately lead to a lot more debate.
An Xbox version, despite being planned to launch on the same day at first was delayed. There were conflicting reports as to why it was delayed from some saying that it was due to development issues with the Series S or possibly due to some quiet deal made with Sony later on which prohibited an Xbox version from being released immediately.
We had conflicting things said from PlayStation and the developers themselves as well with the developers saying it was due to the Series S, while PlayStation’s SVP of Global Partnerships perhaps hinted at a deal.
Whatever the reason maybe, it’s good that Xbox gamers do finally get to try the game themselves. I reviewed Black Myth here at GSC and while not perfect, the game is good overall and was a strong attempt to find a cross between a soulslike and a more traditional character action game akin to Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry.

A large expansion is in development for the game at the moment so who knows, perhaps it could launch when the Xbox version comes out which would be nice after having missed out for a year.
What we don’t know at the moment is if its coming to both Xbox Series S and X. If they really did have issues with the Series S, could we perhaps see the console skipped? Xbox has never allowed a company to skip the Series S so we have our doubts that is the case. Either way it will be interesting to see how well it runs on Xbox consoles.
Pre-orders for the action-RPG will go live on June 18th for Xbox. There is no word yet on if there will be a physical version of the game on Xbox, nor do we know if it will have any editions beyond the standard one. We will get those details presumably closer to pre-orders going live.
Do you plan on grabbing the Xbox version? Let us know!
