Wake up, Samurai – we got detes from CD Projekt Red. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, has unveiled what Project Orion is: a simple game called Cyberpunk 2. CD Projekt Red's North American branch will be taking the lead on the pre-production for this sequel.
CD Projekt noted in an accompanying statement to their Q1 2025 financial report that:
“Several weeks ago the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project's conceptual phase. As a result, Cyberpunk 2 - previously known under the codename Project Orion - has progressed to preproduction.”
In statements drawn from Mike Pondsmith, R. Talsorian Games founder and creator of the Cyberpunk IP, Cyberpunk 2 will feature a new city that feels like "Chicago gone wrong". However, the pending sequel will still feature Night City as a location in the game. Pondsmith also noted while at Digital Dragons 2025 that while they were not involved as heavily with this upcoming sequel, they will be tracking progress (including seeing scripts of what's to come).

This announcement comes on the heels of a statement that the Phantom Liberty DLC has now sold more than 10 million copies. This also comes ahead of the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. This launch will reportedly be available on the Switch 2 (and come with the Phantom Liberty DLC).
According to CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski:
"This result fills us with great satisfaction, especially given that a new addition is about to join our Cyberpunk portfolio [when] on June 5th the game's Ultimate Edition will be coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 console...Positive reactions from gamers and media representatives who have had the opportunity to play the game at a series of global Nintendo events fill us with optimism. It's worth noting that for the first time ever one of our games will become a launch title for a brand new platform."
